Im a steel fixer ( At Skanska ) and i lover rebar! In sweden we use ''Cellplast'' insted of dirt for insolation. It seem that you use less rebar in general in usa. Funny Project ! Love from Sweden !

Why do they completely encapsulate the fill dirt in plastic? Once the concrete is in there isn't it completely encapsulated anyway? Will the pour disrupt those piles in some way? I would think it would tie in better if the tops were left open.

Hi Matt, I gotta ask because my brother is in the construction biz in Southern California. It has been said that PVC when submerged in concrete has a high probability of breaking down and eventually cracking over a period of time, thus causing a potential issue for the foundation later on down the line. With that much concrete, especially around the bunker, did that ever come up? I don’t recall what my brother said is the “proper way” to circumvent that potential issue, but there it is. I’m sure there are a thousand ways to skin a cat, and this is just one opinion. Plus I know you have super talented people on the job, so disrespect meant. Like I said, it’s something I heard. Also, it should be noted that CA has different construction standards due to the earthquake problem. So that probably has something to do with it.
